Northway Academy

Northway Academy provides Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) day programs across Minnesota for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) or related conditions. We believe that all children deserve the opportunity to grow and thrive in the community they call home. Each individual with ASD possesses unique strengths and areas requiring supports. Northway Academy’s services are personalized to meet the unique needs of each child.

Individualized Services and Supports for Children with Autism

At Northway Academy, we offer children and their families innovative, quality services and supports that help lead to growth and independence, regardless of the challenges they face. Our caring, highly trained staff members help the children we serve develop new skills and reach their goals. Our individualized services include, but are not limited to:

  • Assessment and treatment of interfering behavior
  • Skill acquisition using standards and guidelines from the Verbal Behavior Assessment and Placement Program (VB-MAPP)
  • Assessment of Basic Language and Learning Skills, Revised (ABLLS-R)
  • Functional communication training, daily living skills, play skills, and social skills

What is Applied Behavior Analysis?

Applied behavior analysis (ABA) is an applied science that focuses on understanding why people do what they do and helping them make meaningful changes to improve their quality of life. The American Academy of Pediatrics and the National Autism Center have recognized ABA as the only successful intervention in use with individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Over 40 years of peer-reviewed journal articles have demonstrated that ABA can lead to growth in communication, social skills, daily living, play, and academic skills, as well as reduction in interfering behaviors.

Our trained ABA practitioners, known as Board Certified Behavior Analysts, create individualized assessments and interventions tailored to the specific needs of each individual with the goal of increasing socially important behaviors in order to help that individual thrive in their community. The professionals at Northway Academy are qualified to provide evidence-based individualized intervention for behavior, communication, daily living, and social skills. We work one-on-one with children, as well as in partnership with their families, to foster skills that promote growth.
